Do I need to pay any bills?

All utilities are included in the rent, including high-speed Wi-Fi and the use of a private washing machine. A TV Licence is not included, as it is only required if you are planning to watch or record live TV or use BBC iPlayer.

Do I have to pay Council Tax?

We'll take care of the council tax exemption on your behalf, so you don't have to do anything.

How do I pay my rent?

We can help students set up a Direct Debit if required. If you don’t have a UK bank account, payment can be made by bank transfer instead.

Will I get a reminder when it's time to renew my tenancy?

Yes. We always give our current residents priority when it comes to renewing their rooms and will contact them before rooms are released for new bookings.

Can I bring my pet?

At New Era Living, we have a selection of pet-friendly rooms so you are able to bring your pets with you to university. Please note that pets must be declared to us ahead of time. If you'd like to book a pet-friendly room, or find out if your pet will be allowed in our accommodation, please get in touch at lettings@nelstudents.com

Do I need insurance?

The building is insured by New Era Living, but contents insurance is not included. Students are welcome to arrange their own contents insurance if they wish.

What if I need to cancel?

We offer free cancellation if a student is unable to attend university due to not meeting the required academic conditions, provided suitable evidence from the university is supplied. For full details, please contact our Lettings Team at lettings@nelstudents.com.

Are visitors allowed to stay?

Yes, we understand that students may occasionally have friends or family stay overnight, and we're happy to allow this. We simply ask that guests be respectful of other residents. Please note that unauthorised dual occupancy is not permitted, and overnight visitors should only stay occasionally rather than on a regular basis.

Who do I contact in an emergency?

For issues within the accommodation, e.g. if you are locked out, please speak to our reception staff. If you need urgent help from the police, fire, or ambulance services, call 999 immediately.

Parents & Guardians

We know that when your child goes to university, there can be lots of questions about helping them move and the process of renting for the first time.

Haven't seen your question in the FAQs? Find more helpful guides in our Parents & Guardians blog, or get in touch with us via email at lettings@nelstudents.com

I'm a guarantor what does this mean?

If you’ve agreed to be your student’s guarantor, your role is to help them live up to their side of the tenancy agreement, including paying rent on time. You'll take on the joint financial responsibility for the tenancy, which means you agree to pay your student’s rent if they can’t.

Do students need to arrange their own contents insurance?

The building is insured by New Era Living, but contents insurance is not included. Students are welcome to arrange their own contents insurance if they wish.

I'm worried about my child, is there someone I can speak to?

If your child is unreachable, please contact our main reception to request an immediate welfare check. If you know that there is an immediate risk to life, dial 999 to speak to South Yorkshire Police.

How secure is New Era Living?

At New Era Living, our reception is manned 24/7 and the building requires a key fob for access.
